Amazon launched a new "sassy" personality option for Alexa+ that allows the voice assistant to use censored profanity during conversations with adult users. The feature requires additional security verification including face scans and won't activate if Amazon Kids profiles are enabled on the account. Users must also acknowledge warnings about mature content before accessing the mode.

The sassy personality represents Amazon's latest attempt to make Alexa+ conversations feel more natural and engaging through what the company describes as "unfiltered personality" with "razor-sharp wit" and "playful sarcasm." This builds on existing personality options including sweet, brief, and chill modes that users can select to customize their assistant's communication style.

Testing revealed the assistant will say words like "damn" and "hell" but appears to have limits on more explicit language. Amazon has implemented safeguards preventing hate speech, illegal activities, personal attacks or content that could cause harm, maintaining content moderation despite the relaxed language restrictions.

The feature targets adult users seeking more conversational AI interactions, though it remains distinct from companion-style chatbots. As voice assistants compete for user engagement, personality customization represents a growing trend in making AI feel less robotic and more relatable in daily interactions.
